Hertfordshire Primary Schools Cross Country
5th February 2025
On Saturday, February 1, St Margaret’s School proudly hosted the Hertfordshire Primary Schools Cross Country event, welcoming over 70 schools and more than 400 runners for an exciting morning of competition.
The event brought together young athletes from across the county, all eager to test their endurance and showcase their determination, resilience, and sportsmanship.
The races took place on the St Margaret’s School grounds, with a carefully designed course featuring varying terrain and turns to challenge the runners. Despite the early morning chill, the enthusiasm from students, parents and staff created a fantastic atmosphere, with cheers and encouragement ringing across the fields.
The event consisted of four competitive races: Year 6 Boys, Year 6 Girls, Year 5 Boys, and Year 5 Girls. Each race saw impressive performances, with some runners securing outstanding individual and team results. However, the real success was in the effort and determination shown by all participants.
“Whether they were leading the pack or simply pushing themselves to complete the race, every student demonstrated incredible perseverance and commitment”
A special congratulations to the top 10 finishers in each race, who were given an envelope at the finish line with details on how to enter the National Championships on 22 March. This is a fantastic opportunity for these students to take their cross-country experience to the next level and compete against some of the best young runners in the country.
A huge thank you goes out to everyone who made this event possible. From the sports department, teachers and school staff who helped organise and support the students, to the grounds team, maintenance staff, catering team, and logistics teams who ensured the event ran smoothly. Their hard work behind the scenes, from setting up the course to managing the day’s logistics, played a crucial role in making the event such a success.
The event was not just about competition but also about fostering a love for running, teamwork, and personal achievement. Cross country running is an incredible opportunity for students to challenge themselves, build resilience, and experience the thrill of crossing the finish line after giving their all.
Thank you again to all the students who took part, the parents and teachers who supported them, and everyone who contributed to making the event so memorable. We look forward to seeing you all again next year for another fantastic morning of racing.
